The Unwinder Ehrenfelser (2016)
2016 started off with an unusually early and hot spring that had buds bursting at the start of April. The growing season appeared to be set for a record early harvest and then the weather cooled off in July to a moderate summer. As a result the Gewürztraminer was able to hang and ripen nicely to provide a higher sugar level. The signature crispness of our estate vineyard is also present, so the wine is well balanced. Alsatian in perspective, this ripe, luscious wine, like our 2015 vintage, will improve in the bottle. Hang onto it for a few years and do a comparative tasting with the 2015 in, say, 2020.
