FITZ Brut Extra Lees 65 months (2016)
The ever changing 2016 vintage which started hot, went cool, got wet in July, then hot again but still had everything ready for harvest by Labour Day. As a result, we had interesting ripeness in fruit with high natural acidity.
The Fitz Brut is made using traditional methods from 100% estate grown grapes from Greata Ranch Vineyard.
A small amout of the 2016 vintage was left on lees for an extra 24 + months resulting in a richness and complexity in the wine. The 2016 Fitz Brut Extra Lees has a subtle bouquet of red apple and pear with brioche notes. A crisp, textural mouth feel with good mid palate weight and a soft finish. A very special sparkling.
A minimum of 24 months on lees in bottle.
Primary in stainless steel. Secondary in bottle.
A richer, riper fruitier style than any of our previous Fitz Bruts. Red apple nose with a plush approachable mouthfeel and upfront bubble. Almond brioche is present throughout with a nice lemon rind finish.
Soil Types: Ratnip and Greata.
66% Chardonnay 26% Pinot Noir 6% Pinot Blanc 2% Meunier
Food Pairing Notes
Salmon gravlax, a few capers, maybe some pickled red onion.
