2023 Vintage recap with Winemaker Sarah Bain

From a slow cool windy spring the growing season kicked in with a record-breaking hot May.  This rapid heat accumulation meant accelerated vine growth. The vines charged from bud burst to a full canopy in half the time it usually takes. The vineyard crew worked rapidly to keep up with vine management. Temperatures were warm and dry throughout the growing season and with plenty of sunshine hours, we started harvest on the 25th of August, over a week earlier than average and a whole month earlier than 2022. September stayed warm and dry with cool nights giving us beautiful hang time to develop flavours.  With an early harvest, the vines received some much-needed recovery time with full canopy and no fruit before winter arrived to put down reserves for winter and the following season.

The 2023 wines are bright, clean, and vibrant.  They hold the site’s signature acidity and show great flavour profiles and balance.
